Dubai opens free beach library at Jumeirah Beach 2 during Month of Reading
Variety of Arabic and English titles available for visitors of all ages
DUBAI – A new spot for book lovers has appeared along Dubai’s coastline.
A free beach library has opened at Jumeirah Beach 2, offering visitors the chance to enjoy a good read while relaxing by the sea. The initiative adds a literary twist to a traditional beach day, giving residents and tourists access to books in an open, accessible setting.
The launch coincides with the UAE’s Month of Reading, a nationwide initiative dedicated to encouraging reading and the sharing of knowledge. With the arrival of the beach library, visitors can now pick up a book and spend time reading beside the water without needing to bring their own copy.
Beach library
The newly installed library is open to the public and designed to be easily accessible for beachgoers. Shelves include a variety of titles across genres, allowing visitors to browse and select books that match their interests.
The collection features works in both Arabic and English, catering to a wide audience that includes residents, tourists and families visiting the beach. Fiction, historical titles and children’s books are among the options available, making the space suitable for readers of all ages.
The concept encourages visitors to pause between beach activities and explore a book, offering a quieter moment along one of the city’s most popular seaside areas.
UAE Month of Reading
March is marked across the UAE as the Month of Reading, an annual campaign aimed at strengthening reading habits and promoting knowledge across the country. The timing of the beach library launch aligns with these nationwide efforts.
During the month, government entities, educational institutions and community organisations introduce initiatives designed to encourage people to read more frequently and to make books accessible in everyday spaces.
The new installation at Jumeirah Beach 2 contributes to that wider objective by placing reading material directly where people gather for leisure.
Expansion plans
The Jumeirah Beach 2 facility is part of a broader plan to expand Dubai’s network of shoreline libraries. The first beach library was introduced at Kite Beach, where visitors can also borrow books while enjoying the beachfront.
Dubai Municipality plans to introduce additional beach libraries at other coastal locations, extending the initiative across more areas of the city’s waterfront.
By placing reading spaces in public leisure areas, the programme aims to integrate books into daily activities, offering beach visitors the option to enjoy a story, learn something new, or discover a children’s title while spending time outdoors.
